History: La Cappella, about 8km from the Adriatic Sea, midway between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca,  was at one time the small church attached to Casino Mattia, a 1728 structure that was the home of Mattia Bacile di Castiglione. In 1800, Bacile di Castiglione withdrew into this Casino (a small country house owned by the family) to shut himself away from the rest of the world. He was an extraordinary man, lover of beautiful things. It is said that he came from Rome riding a donkey carrying an antique pendulum.
The current owner purchased the house over forty years ago from a direct descendent. The renovation and addition to the structure were carried out with great talent and taste, with full respect of Salentine architecture, tradition and culture.
House: Today La Capella is completely independent and laid out in a horseshoe shape, facing the countryside. From the street, one enters the property through a small doorway. To the left is the entrance to a living room, which used to be the chapel with its altar still partially visible. From this room one accesses the equipped, eat-in kitchen. From here one can go into the master bedroom with its own bathroom with tub. These rooms all open out toward the countryside, onto a terrace with a stone table and garden furniture. The rest of the house is comprised of a twin bedroom and another double bedroom with 2  extra single beds. Each has its own bathroom with shower. These rooms have external access to the terrace.
Personal note: This structure is ideal for those who wish to spend their vacation tranquilly immersed in the Salentine nature. Moreover, it is the ideal solution when combined with Casino Mattia for hosting multiple families or large groups.
