Location: Casotto del Barone, is located in the small village of Spongano, midway between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, approximately six kilometres off the Adriatic coast.
History: The main building on the property is the Palazzo Bacile, a beautiful manor house, which has been in the Bacile di Castiglione family for nearly five centuries. In the second half of the 16th century it became a fortified castle and in the early 17th century it was transformed into a residential home. The Bacile family still lives in one section and often entertains at the property, giving guests the opportunity to socialize with the locals.
House: The Casotto del Barone (named after the father of the owner) is one of the newly restructured, small houses spread out across the spacious property of Bacile di Castiglione. The main building on the property is the Palazzo Bacile, a 16th century manor house. It has a beautiful typical Salentino garden, consisting of various ornamental trees and large expanses of citrus groves. An old tower, which used to house homing pigeons, overlooks the swimming pool and there are many other charming details to be discovered here. The Casotto del Barone is located in this historic Palazzo, on the ground floor.
Inside:  the casotto is a small studio with one double bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchenette. The house opens onto a lovely old and very charm full courtyard  ornate with bougainvillea and other Mediterranean plants,  furnished with table, chairs and umbrella . Not far away there is a barbeque that may be used.
Personal note: The owners have ensured all comforts and the casotto is perfect for two people. If travelling with other friends, it is also ideal to rent it along with one or two of the other cottages (see Tabacchi, Casotto di Caterina, and Casotto Nuovo ecc), giving guests the ideal situation of spending time together while at the same time keeping one’s independence.
